All are warmly invited to the Cardinal Spellman Library for a free author talk with Phyllis Zagano, author "The Vatican and Women Deacons" on Saturday, May 16 at 2:00pm.
This book invites you into one of the Catholic Church’s most meaningful ongoing conversations. The question of women in the ordained diaconate, first raised at a Synod of Bishops in the early 1970s, has been carefully studied for decades—by the International Theological Commission and multiple pontifical commissions—revealing both its richness and complexity.
Zagano’s work offers a welcoming and accessible path into deeper understanding—an opportunity to engage, reflect, and be part of a conversation that continues to unfold within the life of the Church.
This free event is presented by The Franciscan Friars of the Atonement.

Help Catholic Charities feed our neighbors in need. Catholic Charities operates three client-choice food pantries - one each in Orange (Newburgh), Sullivan (Monticello), and Ulster (Kingston) Counties. A few extra hands are needed to help staff with sorting and organizing, stocking shelves, assisting guests, and other tasks that go along with feeding our hungry neighbors. Each pantry has regular weekly hours. For more information, or to volunteer, contact the pantry directly.
