Parish Mission: A Time to Pause, Listen and Be Renewed

  This weekend we will begin our Parish Mission: “Speak, Lord, Your Servant Is Listening.”
  
  I would like to invite all of you to take part in these special days of grace. A parish mission is a chance to slow down, pray, listen to God’s Word, and allow the Lord to renew our hearts. Each day will be a little different, but every gathering will help us grow closer to God.
  
  Some people have never been to a parish mission before. Maybe you are one of them. Maybe you are not sure what to expect. Do not worry. This is not something only for very religious people. It is for everyone. It is for those who pray every day, and also for those who feel distant from God. It is for those who carry questions, burdens, stress, or sadness. It is for anyone who wants to give the Lord a little more room in life.
  
  I ask you in a special way: try to offer one hour for this spiritual supper during the three days of next week. We make time for many things. Let us also make time for the Lord. Give Him one quiet hour, and let Him speak to your heart.
  Our mission will begin this weekend, April 18–19, at all Masses.
  
  Then on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, the 9:00 AM Mass will remain the regular daily Mass, with a special mission homily. The evening mission service will take place at 7:00 PM each day. Each evening service will last about one hour. After the evening service, there will be time for fellowship and refreshments.
  
  We are blessed that Fr. Kevin MacDonald, C.Ss.R. will lead us in this mission. He will help us reflect on God’s Word, pray together, and open our hearts to the presence of the Lord.
  
  There is also a special task for all of us. Think of someone in your family or among your friends who may be struggling in faith. Maybe it is your spouse, your son or daughter, your brother or sister, a neighbor, or a coworker. Invite them. A simple invitation can do more than we think. Sometimes one gentle word is enough to bring someone back closer to God.
  
  If you have been away from the Church, the mission is for you.
  If your faith has grown weak, the mission is for you.
  If you want to pray better, the mission is for you.
  If you want spiritual strength and peace, the mission is for you.
  If you have been faithful for many years, the mission is for you too.
  The mission is for everyone, but especially for you.
  
  I hope many of you will be able to take part in all three days of the mission. If that is not possible, please come whenever your schedule allows. Even one evening can be a blessing and a chance to step away from daily worries for a little while and be renewed by the Lord.

Our Parish Mission, Day by Day!
- Monday April 20
  During the Mission on Monday we are invited to slow down, step away from the noise of daily life, and enter into silence. So much of life is busy, loud, and full of distractions. This evening gives us a chance to be still and make room for God.
  On this first evening of the mission, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed on the altar. Fr. Kevin will lead us in prayer and meditation, with quiet time for personal reflection.
  
  This is a night to listen.
  To listen to God’s word.
  To listen with the heart.
  To let the Lord speak in the silence.
  
  The 9:00 AM Mass will be the regular daily Mass with a special mission homily. Then join us again at 7:00 PM in St. Stephen’s Church, Warwick, for the evening mission service.
  Come and give the Lord one hour.
- Tuesday, April 21
  Yesterday we were invited to listen to God. Today we are invited to let Him touch the parts of our lives that are tired, heavy, wounded, or burdened.
  On this second evening of the mission, the Blessed Sacrament will again be exposed on the altar. Fr. Kevin will lead us in prayer and meditation, with quiet time for reflection. The evening will also include confession and time for private prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.
  This is a night for healing.
  A night to bring the Lord our sins, our worries, our struggles, and our wounds.
  A night to let His mercy renew us.
  The 9:00 AM Mass will be the regular daily Mass with a special mission homily. Then join us again at 7:00 PM in St. Stephen’s Church, Warwick, for the evening mission service.
  
  Come and place before the Lord
  whatever feels heavy.
- Wednesday, April 22
  These days of mission are not only about hearing something beautiful or feeling peaceful for a little while. They are meant to lead us somewhere. When we listen to God and let Him renew us, we are also called to respond.
  Tonight we gather for the closing Massof the mission. We come together at the altar to thank the Lord for these days of grace and to ask for strength to live our faith in daily life. The evening will conclude with the mission blessing, sending us out with renewed hearts.
  
  This is not only the end of the mission.
  It is also a beginning.
  We return to our homes, our families, our work, and our parish life with a deeper desire to live what we have received.
  
  The 9:00 AM Mass will be the regular daily Mass with a special mission homily. Then join us again at 7:00 PM in St. Stephen’s Church, Warwick, for the closing Mass and mission blessing. The closing Mass will also be livestreamed on our parish website.
  
  Come and close these days with
  prayer, gratitude, and hope.
- Reflection at the End of the Parish Mission
  As we come to the end of our Parish Mission, we give thanks to God for these days of prayer, quiet, reflection, and grace. We also thank Fr. Kevin MacDonald for being with us and for helping us open our hearts more deeply to the Lord.
  A parish mission is not only something to attend, but also something to carry home. The Lord has spoken to each person in a different way. For some, maybe it was a moment of peace. For others, maybe it was a call to return to prayer, to confession, or to trust God more deeply. For some, maybe it was simply the reminder that the Lord is still near and still speaking.
  The mission now comes to an end, but the work of grace does not end. What we have heard must now continue in daily life: in our prayer, in our homes, in our families, in our way of speaking, forgiving, helping, and believing.
  Perhaps some wanted to come but did not find the time. Perhaps some were unsure. That happens. But maybe next time they will come. And maybe the witness of those who were here will help open the door for others in the future.
  Very often, the strongest sermon is not preached from the pulpit. It is the witness of a life touched by God. That is why I hope some of you may be willing to share a few words about what this mission meant for you. Your reflection may help someone else take one step closer to the Lord.

God our Father,
we thank You for the gift of our parish
and for the grace of this coming mission.
Quiet our hearts and minds.
Help us slow down, listen to Your voice,
and be open to all that You want to give us.
Let these days be a time of grace for our parish.
Renew our faith, strengthen our families,
bring peace to those who are troubled,
healing to those who are hurting,
and hope to those who feel tired or far from You.
Draw us closer to You
and closer to one another.
Help us welcome Your word with open hearts
and carry its fruits into our daily lives.
Bless every person in our parish community
and prepare us for this time of prayer, reflection, and renewal.
